Maximizing Productivity: How to Harness the Power of Pomodoro and Task Batching

It's Time Management Month, so let's talk Productivity! Do you struggle with managing your time and getting things accomplished? Do you jump from task to task with no rhythm and findyou're not getting a whole lot done? Here are a couple of techniques you might try to get you on track!

Have you heard of the Pomodoro Technique? Pomodoro involves breaking work into a focused 25-minute session, followed by short 5-minute breaks. Then repeat.

Have you heard of Task Batching? Batching involves grouping similar tasks together. Working on one type of task at a time prevents your brain from jumping back and forth and all over the place.

Combining these two productivity methods can be very useful! They can help you stay focused, complete tasks, and increase your productivity.

Pomodoro: The idea is to have 25 minutes of focused and uninterrupted time (no distractions), followed by a 5-minute break. Use those 5 minutes to stretch, get a drink of water, meditate, bio break… then back to another 25-minute stretch. If you work up to 4 of these cycles, take a longer break after the fourth... 15-20 minutes.

Now, if you add in Task Batching, you'll pick one type of task to do during those 25 minutes.  Examples might be: 25 minutes of email or paying bills or invoicing or making phone calls … you get the idea. But, try for one type of task... so, no texting while paying bills... no talking to co-workers or family while checking email... put up the "do not disturb" sign and set your phone down.

Here are a few tips for keys to success:
• Plan ahead and decide how to batch your tasks for the day
• Prioritize the most important tasks
• Use a timer to keep you on track
• One size doesn’t fit all, so allow for
adjustments in your approach until
you find the right balance

Give these techniques a try to see if they can help you!  Let me know how it goes!
